What does worshipping God mean?

Worship is our response to who God is and what He has done. It is the heartfelt expression of reverence, love, gratitude and devotion to our Creator. Songs can carry that response, but worship also includes our thoughts, words, choices and actions—every part of life offered to honour God.

Jesus teaches that true worship is in spirit and in truth. To worship in the Spirit is to respond to God from the heart, made alive and empowered by the Holy Spirit. To worship in truth is to remain grounded in Scripture and centred on Jesus Christ rather than being led only by feelings or tradition.

Why worship matters

Worship turns our attention away from fear, distraction and self-reliance and back toward the character of God. As we remember His goodness and declare His truth, our perspective changes. Worship does not deny the difficulties of life; it places them before the God who is faithful in every season.

Biblical worship renews the mind, strengthens faith and forms humility. It reminds the Church that God is the centre, Christ is our hope and the Holy Spirit is present to comfort, guide and empower His people.

Worship in church

How to worship God every day

Worship can become a daily rhythm through prayer, reading Scripture, gratitude, obedience and acts of love. A quiet prayer before work, a decision to forgive, time spent serving someone or a song of praise can all become expressions of a heart turned toward God.

The aim is not to manufacture a spiritual feeling. It is to recognise God's presence and offer Him an honest response. Over time, these simple practices help faith move beyond Sunday and shape the way we speak, work, rest and care for other people.
